On Monday we plan to travel back to Brussels and explore until we coming back to the good old USA on Wednesday (May 14th)! We will surely have an action packed trip! |
May 7th 2008 at 5:00pm - Everything is going great so far. Jason, Driven, and I spent Monday and Tuesday visiting Bruge and are now (Wednesday) in Kortrijk. Our hotel is in the city center and we can see the main square from our room (although it is a bit loud). We had our first team practice today and had a lot of fun. Following practice we watched a demostration by a Belgian obedience competitor and then had a drink at their pub (in Europe, there seem to be pubs at most dog training facilities). Tomorrow we have our official check in and practice for the WAC.
May 8th 2008 - We had our check in and practice today at the WAC location in Ingelmunster. Practice was good but a bit hectic. We only had 30 minutes to move all the equipment, walk courses, change jump heights, and run 11 dogs on each field. After practice, we had the welcome dinner which I was told lasted until after 10:30pm (I left at 9pm). We start showing tomorrow.
May 9th 2008 - Today was our first official day of showing. Driven was a good girly, but was having a hard time with the slippery, thin grass. I just have to run her like she's on carpet. Driven had a nice Biathalon Jumpers run (with the exception of a refusal at the tire). Video of Biathalon Jumpers is posted to the left.
May 10th 2008 - Driven was super lovely in All-Around Gamblers today! She finished 2nd overall and won the Silver Medal! Good Girly! In Biathalon Standard Driven was good, but kicked out to the cone of the weaves wehn I told her out-weave... Weird. She was a good girl other than that and had some really lovely pieces to her run. Driven also had a nice All-Around Snooker run but pulled off the #6 (teeter) in the close. We had a opening of three 7's. In All-Around Jumpers, Driven pull off a lateral send jump and got a refusal... Other than that she was super. All in all, Driven was a really good girl! She tried really hard, and I really look forward to trying her for the team again in two years.
May 13th 2008 - Wow... I can't believe we leave tomorrow! Monday morning we woke up and checked out of the Kortrijk Hotel and looked around their street flea market and bought some baked goods. We then drove to Brussels and checked into our new hotel. Then we spend the rest of the afternoon sight-seeing around Brussels. This morning (Tuesday) we got up and headed out to Ghent or Gent. We visited around the city, churches, and shops. Later in the afternoon we took a canal boat ride, then headed back to Brussels. We found this nice little restaurant in Brussels (Chez Leon) were we had seafood on both Monday and tonight. I'm excited to be heading home to sleep in my own bed. I'm also looking forward to English and English menus!!! I have really had a great time, but home is calling my name!
